Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, in true sense, is a multifaceted personality. As a media baron, politician and social activist, Soumya Ranjan Patnaik is a household name in Odisha. Apart from being the man who instituted the largest media house in the state, he has also championed various social causes such as promotion of Odia language and culture, spreading awareness and conducting massive blood donation drives.

He is widely regarded for his independent mindedness and path-breaking initiatives that opened up new era in the print media landscape in Odisha. He was the former Chairman of the Sambad Group – a 360 degree media house catering to all sections of the media content consumers.

An alumnus of the prestigious Ravenshaw University, Banaras Hindu University and University of Oxford, with over a decade-long teaching tenure, Patnaik is a mesmerising orator. His contagious youthful charm and exuberance have also made him an inspiration for the youth.

In spite of his busy schedule, his keen interest in cricket and soccer draw him to various tournaments all over the world.

Dipti Ranjan Patnaik’s influence spans across various sectors. Over the course of four decades, Patnaik has carved a distinguished path marked by resilience, innovation, and unwavering dedication to excellence.

Beginning his journey in the ’80s with ventures in manufacturing refractory materials and later exploring the mining sector with Tarini Minerals (P) Ltd and M/S D.R. Patnaik (OPC) Pvt Ltd, Patnaik emerged as a stalwart in the mining landscape, predominantly in Odisha.

In parallel, Patnaik’s impact extends significantly into the media landscape, through his longstanding association with the Sambad Group. Serving as a Director for over twenty-five years, he contributed his expertise and leadership, playing a pivotal role in shaping the growth trajectory of the organization. His recent appointment as Chairman in January 2024 further solidifies his influence within Odisha’s largest media conglomerate.

Alongside success comes great responsibility. He firmly believes in giving back to the society which has catapulted him to such a niche position. His companies contribute significantly to peripheral development as part of CSR activities.

Patnaik is a recipient of the prestigious Rastriya Samman Award and other awards of prominence for his contribution to society and philanthropic activities.

His contributions stand as a testament to his remarkable blend of vision, acumen, and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on the economic and societal landscape of Odisha.

Monica Nayyar Patnaik is a seasoned management professional with extensive expertise.

She is the Managing Director of Sambad Group – Odisha’s No.1 media house. Its flagship brand in print is “Sambad”, Odisha’s most widely read and largest circulated No.1 Odia daily. Others are: Radio Choklate 104 FM, 24×7 Odia news channel Kanak News, Eastern Opera, Digital – sambad.in, sambadgroup.in and Ama Odisha.

She is the past Chairperson of FICCI – Odisha State Council, Governing Body Member of AROI (Association of Radio Operators of India) and the Managing Committee Member of International Advertising Association (IAA), India chapter.

An alumnus of Delhi Public School (RK Puram, New Delhi), she was a three-time topper of the prestigious Hindu College. While pursuing post-graduation in Molecular Biology from Delhi University, she also held fellowships from the renowned Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and did business management in international and domestic marketing from Delhi. Furthermore, she has completed a leadership course from University of Oxford, as well. She is also pursuing her PhD from KIIT School of Management. Besides, she is also a national governing body member of FICCI- Media & Entertainment Skills Council.

Monica regularly participates as chief speaker, panellist, presenter in the national fora for media and entertainment and has been a soft skills trainer for IT giants such as IBM, Infosys, etc.

Tanaya Patnaik, who heads the print, radio, television and digital wings of Odisha’s no.1 media house, Sambad Group, is an alumnus of the prestigious Warwick Business School in England. She is extremely passionate about new media and has been pioneering the group’s foray into digital platforms. She identifies herself as a proud Odia and actively promotes Odia culture via Sambad Group’s various platforms.

Tanaya was instrumental in introducing ‘Street Store’ project concept in India for the first time in 2014.

She facilitated the ‘Sambad 100 Women Edit-a-thon’ aimed to create and edit biography articles of notable Odia women on Wikipedia in Odia and also orchestrated an exclusive open mic for women called ‘UNZIP’ to commemorate International Women’s Day which organizes innovative, women centric events.

Her very own monologue series ‘Pause with Tanaya Patnaik’ sheds light on various issues, personalities and places relatable to the current trends, along with Odia tradition and culture.

A fervent enthusiast within the realm of theatrical performances, she embarked on a creative endeavour by founding Choklate Productions. This venture bore fruit with the creation of a widely acclaimed play titled “Ahe Nilashaila.” Apart from Bhubaneswar, New Delhi and Bengaluru, the historical play was staged in Pilgrim Town Puri too during the inauguration of Jagannath Temple Heritage Corridor project.
